Surprising New Development in the Fight against Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction or ED is something most men will face sometime in their life, the reasons for erectile dysfunction include heart ailments, diabetes, alcohol and drugs abuse, smoking, depression among others. And the popularity of viagra and other similar drugs (even with the side effects) which are being used to treat ED is proof positive that men will go to any lengths to rid themselves of this condition.
This multibillion dollar industry has spawned numerous knock offs in the form of generic Viagra and some other types of erectile dysfunction treatments; some of which work and some don’t. Companies are pouring large amounts of money in research and development to find the next Viagra.
Now researchers have found that hydrogen sulphide, Yes the same gas which you would remember from your chemistry lab practical in school (rotten egg smell); when injected opens blood vessels and improves erections in animal studies and has shown similar effects in human tissue.
It produces the same effects as Viagra, just through different mechanisms. The Bristol-based consultant urologist Raj Persad says: ‘We know that exercise and lowering of blood pressure contribute to a healthy heart and blood vessels, and that healthy cardiovascular function is associated with good erectile function.
‘At the other end of the spectrum, it is known that uncontrolled diabetes and smoking conspire to damage both cardiovascular and erectile health.
‘But it is unquestionably good news to discover yet another means of improving the health of blood vessels in men.
It will be interesting to keep an eye on further developments in the use of hydrogen sulphide as an alternative to other forms of erectile dysfunction treatment.
