Study Links Restless Leg Syndrome in Older Men to Erectile Dysfunction

Researchers at Harvard University have just finished a study which shows that older men (Average age of 64) who suffer from restless leg syndrome are about 50% more likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction than those men who are not afflicted by it. The study was done on more than 11000 men, which makes it quite a comprehensive study.
Restless leg syndrome is a little known nervous system disorder that affects the movement of the legs, about 10% of the U.S. population suffers from it, there are no numbers available for it in India. The cause of this syndrome is not known and the symptoms include tingling sensation, crawling sensations and general discomfort in the legs and these symptoms are generally more prominent during the evening or night which makes sleeping difficult. Higher frequency of these symptoms increased the risk of erectile dysfunction even more.
The study took into account the medical histories and use of antidepressants and smoking of the participants and still came to the conclusion that almost every 1 in 2 men who suffer from the restless leg syndrome will also suffer from erectile dysfunction or impotence.
